New Account Mapping Tools for Financial Benchmarking

Acting on feedback from last year's users, we have improved the generic account mapping tool that was introduced in conjunction with the YE2016 Solomon Coyle Operational and Financial Benchmarking Survey. Our goal from the beginning has been to make it easier for dealers to take part and gain the benefits of the Benchmarking Survey year after year. Many thanks to those early adopters for putting the first-generation mapping tool through its paces and sharing their ideas with us for improving it.

More recently, we continued the development effort by creating account mapping tools for users of Hedberg, Khameleon, and CORE business systems. With these new, system-specific mapping tools, dealers that operate one of these platforms will be able to do their account mapping from a system-generated trial balance.

All four mapping tools are available for download now and we will be conducting orientation webinars on November 28 and November 30.

Look for Mapping Tool Links in Emails from Solomon Coyle

The links for downloading the new mapping tools were included in emails we sent Monday, November 20. The emails went to contacts in all companies selected to participate in the YE2017 benchmarking survey, representing the Allsteel, Haworth, Herman Miller, Knoll, and Steelcase dealer networks.

Look for follow-up emails on Monday, November 27.

Both the initial and the follow-up emails enable registration for the orientation webinars.

Map Once and You're Done

The account mapping tools are straightforward to use. Once you export your company's map from the account mapping tool, your current balances and P&L data will automatically populate the correct survey fields. That will leave more time to focus on entering your company’s demographic information and prior-year balances and generally streamline your effort in completing the survey.

How long it takes to do the mapping will depend on how many accounts you have. However, mapping should need to be done only once. Your mapped account names and associated data will be stored in the mapping tool. When you’re ready to begin the next Benchmarking Survey, import your new raw data to the mapping tool, adjust the allotments as needed, and you should be ready for export to the survey.

Give Yourself a Head Start on the YE2017 Survey

The YE2017 Benchmarking Survey will be released in mid-January. Survey completion will be faster and easier for dealers who take advantage of this window before year-end accounting to complete the account mapping process.
